A 12 month old baby girl usually wears size 12-18 months, which covers 75–83 cm. If she's still under 75 cm, go for 9-12 months (72–74 cm). As leggings can be turned up at the hem, if in doubt choose the larger size. More measurements in the size guide.

Yes, stretch knit leggings are one of the comfiest options for first steps: they don't restrict movement or drag like wide trousers. Check that the length doesn't cover her feet and that the waist isn't tight. Pair them with flexible shoes.

A plain T-shirt or bodysuit in one of the colours of the print, and you're done. Floral or fruit leggings also look lovely under a single-colour dress or tunic. Avoid mixing two large prints in the same outfit.

Wash them inside out on a cold wash with similar colours, and dry them naturally, without a tumble dryer, so the knit keeps its stretch and the print its colour. Embroidered pairs are best in a laundry bag. Always follow the care label.
