Boys' shirts: which one to choose for each occasion

tuc tuc boys' shirts are made from lightweight, breathable woven fabric, with palm tree or abstract prints, a classic design, roll-up tab sleeves or a detachable bow tie. Sizes go from 6 months to 16 years, so they work for older boys too. For more choice, head to boys' T-shirts and shirts.

Choose according to the plan

  • Wedding, First Communion or photos: a classic design shirt or one with a detachable bow tie, with smart trousers.
  • Holidays and summer: a palm tree or abstract print shirt with shorts.
  • Everyday with a little extra: a shirt with roll-up tab sleeves that can be rolled up and fastened.

Boys' sizes

4 years: 99–104 cm · 6 years: 111–116 cm · 8 years: 123–128 cm · 10 years: 129–136 cm · 12 years: 137–144 cm. As woven fabric has no stretch, between two sizes, go for the larger one. Check the size guide.

How it should fit

The shoulder seam should sit on the shoulder, not on the arm, and the shirt should button up without pulling across the chest. If the sleeves are a little short, the roll-up tabs make it easy to wear them rolled up.

For care, wash cold and without tumble drying, and dry on a hanger with the top button done up: the collar keeps its shape better.

Is a detachable bow tie worth it?

Yes. You get two shirts in one: with the bow tie for a wedding or First Communion, and without it for lunches, birthday parties or everyday wear with shorts.

Frequently asked questions

What size shirt does a 6-year-old boy need?

For a 6-year-old boy, the usual choice is size 6 years, designed for 111–116 cm. If he's taller than 116 cm, size 7 years (117–122 cm) is a better choice. Check it buttons up comfortably across the chest and that the sleeves reach his wrists.

What's the best boys' shirt for summer?

For summer, a short-sleeved shirt in lightweight, breathable woven fabric is cooler than many T-shirts because it doesn't cling to the body. Pair it with plain boys' shorts for a fresh, smart look.

What shirt should a boy wear as a guest at a First Communion?

As a guest, a classic design shirt in a light shade with chinos or smart trousers is a safe bet. If you want a more special touch, the shirt with a detachable bow tie lifts the outfit without the need for a jacket.

How should I look after boys' shirts so they last?

Wash them cold, inside out and without tumble drying, and always follow the care label. Remove the detachable bow tie before washing. Dry them on a hanger with the top button done up: that way the collar keeps its shape and they barely need ironing.

What are the tabs on shirt sleeves for?

Roll-up tabs are there to hold the rolled-up sleeve in place with a button, so it doesn't slip down while he's playing or eating. It's a practical detail on hot days and extends the life of the shirt when the sleeves start getting too short.
