Transitional jackets for baby girls
tuc tuc baby girls' coats are transitional jackets: woven fabric jackets with flower, fruit or abstract prints, some with a hood or zip, and knitted cardigans with pointelle, raised or embroidered details. Sizes start at 0-1 month. For really cold days, see cold and rain and, to pair them with, our baby girls' transitional clothing.
Woven fabric or knit
- Woven: a lightweight, more tightly woven fabric designed for wind or light drizzle. Hooded styles are the most practical for walks.
- Knit: soft knit with pointelle or embroidery. Warm without being heavy and lovely over a dress.
Getting the size right
Measure your little one: 3-6 months = 63–68 cm, 6-9 months = 69–71 cm, 12-18 months = 75–83 cm, 18-24 months = 83–92 cm. If she's between two sizes, go for the larger one. A transitional jacket is worn over a top or bodysuit, so there's no need to size up too much.
What to wear it with
Cropped knitted cardigans look lovely with dresses and skirts; printed woven jackets work best with leggings or plain trousers so the print stands out.
Safe fabrics
All tuc tuc clothing is made in line with the European REACH regulation, which bans harmful substances in textiles.
Knit or woven for walks?
If she's out in the pram and it's a bit breezy, a hooded woven jacket is best. If she'll be indoors or in the sun, a knitted cardigan gives just the right amount of warmth.
Frequently asked questions
What size jacket does a 6-month-old baby girl need?
Usually 6-9 months, which is for 69–71 cm. If she's under 69 cm, 3-6 months (63–68 cm) will fit her better. On each jacket's product page you can enter her height and we'll suggest the size. More measurements in the size guide.
Are baby girls' jackets warm enough for winter?
They're transitional pieces: warm enough for spring, autumn or mild winter days. For proper cold, a padded coat is the better choice. A knitted cardigan does work in winter as a mid layer under a coat.
Which baby girl jacket looks best with a dress?
A cropped knitted cardigan with pointelle or embroidery goes best with dresses because it doesn't cover the skirt. For a more casual look, try a printed woven jacket with a plain dress.
How do you wash a baby's knitted cardigan?
Ideally by hand or on a delicate cycle, cold and inside out, always following the care label. Dry it flat on a towel so the knit doesn't stretch; avoid the tumble dryer and don't hang it up wet by the shoulders.
Is a knitted cardigan a good gift for a baby girl?
Yes, it's a gift that's always appreciated: it gets worn almost all year round and goes with everything. If you don't know her size, choose one above her age; a knitted cardigan allows for some extra room and will last longer.
What baby girl jackets does tuc tuc have?
tuc tuc has woven jackets with flower, fruit or underwater prints, some with a hood or zip, knitted cardigans with pointelle, raised and embroidered details, and a denim jacket. All are made in line with the European REACH regulation.
