tuc tuc boys' trousers are made for moving: most are sweatshirt fleece with an elasticated waist or drawstring and fun prints, and there's also corduroy, woven fabric and jeans. Sizes run from 6 months to 16 years. To complete the school look, take a look at boys' sweatshirts and boys' T-shirts.
Why fleece works so well
Sweatshirt fleece is soft, stretchy and warm. With an elasticated waist or drawstring, children can dress themselves, which is really handy from age 3 or 4. Ribbed cuffs stop the hems dragging and tearing.
What to check before buying
- Waist: elasticated for little ones; drawstring or adjustable for slimmer children.
- Pockets: side or cargo, to keep their treasures in.
- Print: dinosaurs, geometric or plain; plain ones go with more sweatshirts.
Size by height
Size 4 years is for 99–104 cm and size 6 years for 111–116 cm. Between two sizes, the larger one: the drawstring adjusts the waist and the cuff takes up the length.
For care, wash fleece inside out and cold, without tumble drying, so it doesn't bobble and the print doesn't fade. Follow the care label. And if your son does PE at school, always keep a spare pair of fleece trousers for that day.
How many trousers for school?
With three or four pairs of fleece trousers per size you'll have plenty between washes. Choose at least two in plain or neutral tones, which go with any sweatshirt.
Frequently asked questions
What size fleece trousers does a 4 year old boy need?
If he's between 99 and 104 cm, size 4 years; if he's over 104 cm, size 5 years (105–110 cm). Between two sizes, choose the larger one. You can enter his height on the trousers' product page and the size will be shown, or check the size guide.
Which trousers are best for a child to dress themselves?
Fleece trousers with an elasticated waist and no buttons or zip. They pull up and down in one go, which is key at school and for going to the toilet on their own. Styles with a decorative or internal drawstring are just as easy and let you adjust them if they're a bit big.
Fleece or corduroy trousers for a boy in winter?
Both are warm. Fleece is stretchier and comfier for playing and sport; corduroy has more body and looks smarter for outings or family lunches. Ideally, have fleece for everyday and one pair of corduroys for occasions.
How to wash boys' fleece trousers so they don't bobble?
Wash them inside out, cold, with similar garments and without tumble drying. Avoiding rubbing against rough fabrics, such as jeans or Velcro, reduces bobbling. As a general rule, follow the garment's care label and don't use bleach on prints.
Which sweatshirt to wear with boys' printed fleece trousers?
A plain sweatshirt in one of the print's colours. If the trousers have green dinosaurs, for example, a green or grey sweatshirt is perfect. If the trousers are plain, you can go for a printed sweatshirt.
