Newborn shoes: what to choose and which size

Newborn shoes from tuc tuc are soft sandals and little shoes in woven fabric or knit, with hook-and-loop, buckle, adjustable-strap or elastic-lace fastening. They're sized by months (3, 6, 9 and 12 months) and feature details such as a giraffe on the front or bright colours. Pair them with our newborn sets and sleepsuits.

Sandal or closed shoe

  • Sandals: woven fabric, with cut-outs that let the foot breathe; for spring and summer.
  • Closed shoes: woven fabric or knit, covering the whole foot; for in-between seasons or when it turns cooler.

Which fastening suits you

Hook-and-loop is the quickest; a buckle and an adjustable strap let you fine-tune the fit on slim or chubby feet; elastic laces go on without tying anything. Whichever you choose, the aim is for the shoe to stay on without pinching.

How to get the size right by months

Use age as a starting point and check your baby's height in the size guide: 3-6 months = 63–68 cm, 6-9 months = 69–71 cm, 9-12 months = 72–74 cm. If you can, measure their foot while they're standing on a sheet of paper, from heel to longest toe, add about 1 cm of room and compare with the shoe. If they're between two sizes, choose the bigger one.

A size for now or for later?

Think about when they'll wear them. Sandals bought in winter will first be worn in warm weather, so choose the size for the age your baby will be by then.

Frequently asked questions

What shoe size should I choose for a 3-month-old baby?

For a 3-month-old baby measuring between 63 and 68 cm, choose size 3-6 months (shown as ‘6 months’ on the product page). If it'll be a while before they wear them, go up to the next size. You can measure their foot from heel to longest toe and add about 1 cm of room to check against the size guide.

Does a newborn baby who isn't walking yet need shoes?

They don't need them for walking, but soft little shoes keep their feet covered and complete the outfit for walks and special occasions. That's why tuc tuc's newborn shoes are light and flexible, in woven fabric or knit, with simple fastenings that don't pinch.

Sandals or closed shoes for a newborn?

Sandals for warm weather and closed shoes for the rest of the year. tuc tuc's newborn sandals have cut-outs and soft straps; the closed shoes, in woven fabric or knit, cover the whole foot when it turns cooler. Both are sized by months, from 3 to 12 months.

How do I wash knitted newborn shoes?

As a general rule, by hand, in cold water with a gentle soap, without rubbing hard. Rinse them well, reshape them by hand and leave them to dry flat in the shade, without tumble drying. First and foremost, follow the care label for each style.

Are newborn shoes a good new baby gift?

Yes, they're a practical and pretty gift. Choose a 6- or 9-month size so the baby can wear them for longer, and think about the season: sandals if they'll be worn in warm weather. You can add a newborn accessory to go with them.

What newborn shoes does tuc tuc offer?
