Girls' skirts: how to choose fabric and size
tuc tuc girls' skirts are our own designs in denim, sweatshirt fleece, ribbed knit, tulle and printed cotton, with elasticated waists and sizes from 6 months to 16 years. You'll find denim skirts with embroidered hearts, animal print tulle skirts and fleece skirts for every day, alongside leggings to wear underneath. Pair them with girls' T-shirts or girls' sweatshirts.
Which skirt for which day
- Fleece or knit: comfy and warm, for school.
- Denim: hard-wearing and goes with everything; some have embroidered or printed hearts.
- Tulle: for parties and celebrations.
- Ribbed knit with decorative buttons: a touch smarter without losing comfort.
Waist and size
Most have an elasticated waist, which makes it easier for her to put on by herself. Choose the size by height: 5 years = 105–110 cm, 7 years = 117–122 cm, 10 years = 129–136 cm. If she's between two, go for the larger size.
When it's cold, skirt and leggings
Fleece leggings or tights underneath turn any skirt into a winter outfit. Choose plain leggings or ones with a print that picks up a colour from the skirt, and add ankle boots.
To care for them, wash inside out on a cold wash and don't tumble dry. Wash denim with dark colours for the first few washes, and tulle in a laundry bag. Always follow the care label.
Short skirt or with leggings?
For girls who spend playtime running around, a skirt with leggings underneath gives freedom and peace of mind. Tulle or shorter skirts are better for calmer plans and celebrations.
Frequently asked questions
What size skirt should I buy for a 9 year old girl?
It depends on her height: if she's up to 128 cm, size 8A (123–128 cm); if she's between 129 and 136 cm, size 10A. As there's no size 9, many girls of that age already wear 10A. The elasticated waist gives some leeway. More measurements in the size guide.
What's the best girls' skirt for school?
For school, a fleece or knit skirt with an elasticated waist is the most comfortable: she can put it on herself, it doesn't dig in when sitting and it stands up to washing. When it's cold, wear it with leggings or tights. Denim skirts also cope well with daily wear.
How do you style a girls' denim skirt?
A denim skirt goes with almost anything: printed T-shirts, sweatshirts, knitted jumpers or blouses. In winter, add tights or leggings and ankle boots; on milder days, trainers. Find ideas in girls' denim for a complete denim look.
How do you wash a girls' tulle skirt?
Wash it inside out on a cold, delicate cycle inside a laundry bag to protect the tulle. Hang it up to dry, without a tumble dryer, so it regains its volume, and don't iron over the decorated part. If in doubt, hand wash and follow the care label.
Which girls' skirt should I choose for a party?
For a party, a tulle skirt, a denim skirt with details or a cotton skirt with a floral print are the most eye-catching. Pair it with a plain T-shirt or blouse and fine tights. If she wants to be comfortable, a fleece skirt with a special jumper works too.
